The New Football Field Lights at Night!

WHY NEW LIGHTS?

After more than 40 years of service the eight wooden poles which carry the lights aloft were replaced before the start of the 2019 football season thanks to our business community, alumni and individual donations!

YOU CAN NOW SEE LOCKHART IN A NEW LIGHT

The current eight pole lighting system was replaced with four concrete and metal towers which will carry the new lights aloft fe.  With the improvement in lighting technology, the lights atop these four new poles will significantly brighten the playing surface, while decreasing the “light pollution” and energy usage by fifty percent. These towers, from industry leader Musco Lighting Company, come in five pieces which allow for a fast trouble free installation..  These lights will not only improve the lighting of the playing surface but they will also increase the ambient light in the spectator areas improving safety and security at all events.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The cost of the lighting replacement was $225,000.  This includes removal and disposal of the current towers, installation of the new towers, electrical refinements, ground water removal to prepare the foundations and landscape rehabilitation.

West Football Bleacher Installation has Begun!

A REAL CROWD PLEASER

Lockhart Field is not only one of the most historic football fields it is also one of the best venues to watch a game. The bleachers on the home and visitor side begin just feet from the sideline and fans are almost as close to the game as the players & coaches.

WHY NEW BLEACHERS

The bleachers renovation that has begun are the home football bleachers on the west sideline along Eleventh Street. The old bleachers were steel framed and wood seated bleacher was built between 1947 — 1951. The new structure will offer easier access to seating, improve sight lines and provide more of a stadium feel to the complex. With solid aluminum seats the home stands will be transformed into a true grandstand.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The project is budgeted at $225,000 which includes removal and disposal of the existing structure, construction of the new grandstand, installation of concrete walkways, reconstruction of the North & West entrances to the field and landscape rehabilitation.

A new west fence will also be installed replacing the original chain link fence. With enough money raised we plan to build a west end spectator drop off lane and handicapped parking.

The bleachers slated for reconstruction are the home football bleachers on the west sideline along Eleventh Street. The current steel framed and wood seated bleacher was built between 1947 — 1951. While the planking has been updated over the last 60 years the current bleachers have accessibility issues as well other concerns which would be eliminated with replacement of the structure.

LET’S PUT THE GRAND IN GRANDSTAND

The new structure will offer easier access to seating, improve sight lines and provide more of a stadium feel to the complex. With brick or split faced block and solid fiberglass or aluminum seats the home stands will be transformed into a true grandstand.

THE BOTTOM LINE

The project is budgeted at $150,000 which includes removal and disposal of the existing structure, construction of the new grandstand, installation of concrete walkways, reconstruction of the North & West entrances to the field and landscape rehabilitation.
